About the Creator

I’m Archer Thorncroft, a lifelong food enthusiast raised in Wellington, New Zealand, with a deep, unexpected passion for Indian cuisine. My journey began with a single plate of butter chicken at a small Delhi café during a trip to India—and it never ended. Since then, I’ve spent years studying recipes, traveling across India, and cooking alongside home cooks who taught me that the best flavors aren’t found in restaurants, but in kitchens filled with laughter and love. This website is my tribute to them—and to you, the curious cook ready to explore.

Why This Website Exists

I noticed how often Indian food was oversimplified or reduced to a few popular dishes. But India’s culinary landscape is vast, nuanced, and deeply personal. I created Big Fat Indian Recipes to honor that complexity—not by making it intimidating, but by making it inviting. You don’t need to be Indian to love Indian food. You just need curiosity, a willingness to try, and a hungry heart.

Our Values

We believe in authenticity over perfection. Every recipe is tested multiple times in a home kitchen, with ingredients that are easy to find. We avoid jargon, respect regional diversity, and never claim to represent all of India—because no one person can. We also believe in sustainability, using seasonal ingredients and reducing waste wherever possible. Most of all, we believe food should bring people together.
